Colleges and
universities
need financial support to develop curricula and training programs in
international business. Small and mid-size businesses need
assistance in finding agents and
distributors,
accessing foreign markets, obtaining sales leads, learning
cross-cultural
communications skills, and countless
other issues related to doing business
internationally. The solution may be found in a single federal program.
One proven way to begin and/or enhance
such
programming is with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education
[USDOE],
Business and International
Education Program, Title VI-B. Each
year this
program funds about twenty new two-year projects for an average of
$80,000 per
year. This is a 50-50
matching grant, i.e., the applicant is
required
to match in kind and/or cash each dollar requested from the USDOE. It
is the
best single source of funding
available in support of export
assistance, curriculum development and professional training.
